6 ways to keep warm without turning up the heat

(Leaving the planet as we found it)

With winter on its way, I thought I'd share some ways to keep warm without turning up the heat or warming the planet.

1. Think "heat people, not rooms". Start by putting on more or warmer clothes. Several thin layers of clothes, or anything fleecy or quilted will be warmer and lighter than one thick jumper. Don’t forget to keep your feet warm too.

2. Go for a brisk walk. Getting your circulation going will do wonders for warming you right to your fingers and toes (not to mention giving your brain a boost.)

3. If there’s only one or two of you in a room, just heat the air around you with a mobile heater rather heating the whole room. And only heat the rooms that are being used.

4. Keep rugs and throws handy on the couch for snuggling under when you’re reading or watching TV.

5. Go to bed early and make the most of fleecy sheets, doona and a hot water bottle. It’s a great excuse for reading in bed.

6.Make sure that there are no draughts coming around or under the doors, and close the curtains to keep in the heat if the sun isn't shining on the windows.

Do you have other hints to share?
